Universal OM Yoga Philosophy©
About the Guru. Mehrdad Khan Moayedi, founder of OM Yoga, has had a journey through Yoga from an early age. He has always had a fascination of the ability to stretch and elongate the body and the acrobatic form.
From the age four, he was always involved in many activities such as playing soccer, wrestling, running, etc. At the young age of 6, Mehrdad Khan Moayedi was diagnosed with Rheumatism. He suffered a great deal of pain in his lower body for many years and had to take weekly injections of penicillin, numerous medications, and many doctor visits with little hope for his future. Throughout all of this, he remained with a strong will and actively participated in all sports and arts. As he grew older, he began to research cures for his illness.
At the age of 13, he had the unfortunate occurrence of being struck by a car and throughout a period of time, was practically crippled and had a complete loss of flexibility. He suffered painful sciatic nerves and could not get up alone. By the age of 14, he was introduced to Yoga by his first Guru, Koulnaz Moayedi, his sister-in-law. In addition, a holistic sport doctor, Dr. Paivandi, encouraged Yoga to cure his pain. He later read an extensive article about the power of garlic and onion so he began to eat pure garlic and onion daily in addition to the Yoga. This began his Yoga revolution by intense diet and Yoga Asana (stretching).
Within one year, he built up his immunity system and no longer needed shots, medicine or doctor visits. His Rheumatism was cured. He became ‘more’ healthy and flexible than ever.
From that moment, he believed in the power of the mind and body. The power of healing yourself by eating a proper diet and the power of Yoga. As a result, Mehrdad Khan Moayedi discovered his own Yoga system, the Universal OM Yoga.
About Yoga: Yoga is the oldest science of life. Yoga can teach you to bring stress under control. Not only on a physical level, but on a mental and spiritual level too. Today in our society, more than ever our history dictates that people in the West are faced with all sorts of stress and tension that is beyond their control. Thousands upon thousands of people have turned to tranquilizers, anti-depressants, sleeping pills and alcohol to relieve these stresses. However, since the second century B.C., a Yogi by the name of Patanjali formulized certain techniques and philosophies, which incorporate an inseparable link between the body, mind and spirit. We know these eastern philosophies, such as Yoga. These teachings show the importance of maintaining balance of three elements: body, mind and spirit.
Today Yoga is practiced all over the world. No matter whom you are. Whether young or old, sick or healthy, athletic or not. All can benefit from this eastern discipline which started from the mountains of the Himalayas to the deepest parts of Egypt. Many great Gurus also came from the heart of the Persian culture, soofiisym, and Dervish (wise philosopher) passed down to European and Western cultures throughout the centuries.
To Begin Yoga Teachings show the physical body is only one aspect of health in Yoga philosophy. The mind and spirit are just as important. Fortunately, Western medicine has also begun to understand that the mind must heal first in order for the body to mend. However, even with Western medicine beginning to understand this concept, their approach is piece meal, whereas Yoga integrates the science of mind, body and spirit. According to ancient Yoga theory, the causes of disease are of two kinds: Internal imbalance in the psycho mental state and external response to changing atmospheric and climatic conditions. In addition to Yoga is a science of health, unlike modern western medicine, which is largely a science of disease and treatment. The teaching of Yoga is based on an intricate and precise understanding of a healthy functioning body, spirit and mind.
Yoga technique is designed more so to maximize ones own potential for good health. Vitality and lasting youthfulness. More over, Yoga is unique among all forms of culture. It works systematically on all the parts of the living body in order to keep them functioning in balance and perfect condition. The principal of Yoga has been understood for centuries. This eastern philosophy has designed the proper exercise program which includes the gentle elongation and defining of the muscle. In doing this, the individual will have increased strength, awareness, internal & external balance, and flexibility. This philosophy is not designed to form big bulky muscle or to over exhaust the individual. Above all, Yoga will stimulate circulation, right down to the cellular level so that the tissues are nourished and rejuvenated.
In addition to this process, Yoga will remove wastes from the body, therefore, allowing the vital organs to return to full efficiency. Also the metabolism of the body is restored. As a result of Yoga, you will receive flexibility, a tone & firm body, weight control, stress release, improved concentration of the mind, increased inner power of energy, and most importantly, the balance of the body, mind and spirit.
Master Mehrdad Khan Moayedi emphasizes on the following elements:
1. Proper Exercise
2. Proper Relaxation
3. Proper Breathing
4. Proper Diet
5. Positive Thinking and Meditation
6. Better Connection with Spiritual Inner Being
7. Proper Technique
8. Proper teaching methods and environment
Yoga is a science, not a sport.
