Master Mehrdad Moayedi: Yoga
Master Mehrdad Moayedi: Yoga: "Universal OM Yoga Philosophy© About the Guru. Mehrdad Khan Moayedi, founder of OM Yoga, has had a journey through Yoga from an early age. ..."
Yoga
Universal OM Yoga Philosophy©
About the Guru. Mehrdad Khan Moayedi, founder of OM Yoga, has had a journey through Yoga from an early age. He has always had a fascination of the ability to stretch and elongate the body and the acrobatic form.
From the age four, he was always involved in many activities such as playing soccer, wrestling, running, etc. At the young age of 6, Mehrdad Khan Moayedi was diagnosed with Rheumatism. He suffered a great deal of pain in his lower body for many years and had to take weekly injections of penicillin, numerous medications, and many doctor visits with little hope for his future. Throughout all of this, he remained with a strong will and actively participated in all sports and arts. As he grew older, he began to research cures for his illness.
At the age of 13, he had the unfortunate occurrence of being struck by a car and throughout a period of time, was practically crippled and had a complete loss of flexibility. He suffered painful sciatic nerves and could not get up alone. By the age of 14, he was introduced to Yoga by his first Guru, Koulnaz Moayedi, his sister-in-law. In addition, a holistic sport doctor, Dr. Paivandi, encouraged Yoga to cure his pain. He later read an extensive article about the power of garlic and onion so he began to eat pure garlic and onion daily in addition to the Yoga. This began his Yoga revolution by intense diet and Yoga Asana (stretching).
Within one year, he built up his immunity system and no longer needed shots, medicine or doctor visits. His Rheumatism was cured. He became ‘more’ healthy and flexible than ever.
From that moment, he believed in the power of the mind and body. The power of healing yourself by eating a proper diet and the power of Yoga. As a result, Mehrdad Khan Moayedi discovered his own Yoga system, the Universal OM Yoga.
About Yoga: Yoga is the oldest science of life. Yoga can teach you to bring stress under control. Not only on a physical level, but on a mental and spiritual level too. Today in our society, more than ever our history dictates that people in the West are faced with all sorts of stress and tension that is beyond their control. Thousands upon thousands of people have turned to tranquilizers, anti-depressants, sleeping pills and alcohol to relieve these stresses. However, since the second century B.C., a Yogi by the name of Patanjali formulized certain techniques and philosophies, which incorporate an inseparable link between the body, mind and spirit. We know these eastern philosophies, such as Yoga. These teachings show the importance of maintaining balance of three elements: body, mind and spirit.
Today Yoga is practiced all over the world. No matter whom you are. Whether young or old, sick or healthy, athletic or not. All can benefit from this eastern discipline which started from the mountains of the Himalayas to the deepest parts of Egypt. Many great Gurus also came from the heart of the Persian culture, soofiisym, and Dervish (wise philosopher) passed down to European and Western cultures throughout the centuries.
To Begin Yoga Teachings show the physical body is only one aspect of health in Yoga philosophy. The mind and spirit are just as important. Fortunately, Western medicine has also begun to understand that the mind must heal first in order for the body to mend. However, even with Western medicine beginning to understand this concept, their approach is piece meal, whereas Yoga integrates the science of mind, body and spirit. According to ancient Yoga theory, the causes of disease are of two kinds: Internal imbalance in the psycho mental state and external response to changing atmospheric and climatic conditions. In addition to Yoga is a science of health, unlike modern western medicine, which is largely a science of disease and treatment. The teaching of Yoga is based on an intricate and precise understanding of a healthy functioning body, spirit and mind.
Yoga technique is designed more so to maximize ones own potential for good health. Vitality and lasting youthfulness. More over, Yoga is unique among all forms of culture. It works systematically on all the parts of the living body in order to keep them functioning in balance and perfect condition. The principal of Yoga has been understood for centuries. This eastern philosophy has designed the proper exercise program which includes the gentle elongation and defining of the muscle. In doing this, the individual will have increased strength, awareness, internal & external balance, and flexibility. This philosophy is not designed to form big bulky muscle or to over exhaust the individual. Above all, Yoga will stimulate circulation, right down to the cellular level so that the tissues are nourished and rejuvenated.
In addition to this process, Yoga will remove wastes from the body, therefore, allowing the vital organs to return to full efficiency. Also the metabolism of the body is restored. As a result of Yoga, you will receive flexibility, a tone & firm body, weight control, stress release, improved concentration of the mind, increased inner power of energy, and most importantly, the balance of the body, mind and spirit.
Master Mehrdad Khan Moayedi emphasizes on the following elements:
1. Proper Exercise
2. Proper Relaxation
3. Proper Breathing
4. Proper Diet
5. Positive Thinking and Meditation
6. Better Connection with Spiritual Inner Being
7. Proper Technique
8. Proper teaching methods and environment
Yoga is a science, not a sport.

Master Mehrdad Promotes a New Mixed Martial Art
August 2010 Issue - Zebra Mats E-Newsletter
Master Mehrdad Promotes a New Mixed Martial Art
Master Mehrdad Moayedi operates a highly successful martial arts and Muay Thai training center in Tampa Bay, Florida where he teaches more than 150 students. He discovered a lifelong passion for martial arts very early in life. As a three year old in Iran, he first practiced Judo. He soon started wrestling and was a five-time champion in his home country.
Throughout his extensive career, he has trained in Kung-Fu, Tae Keuk Do, Hapkido, Muay Thai and Persian Kushti Kaj, earning black belt ranks in several of these arts. He is an 8th degree black belt in Hapkido and the Heavyweight Title Holder of Shin Do Kumaté. One of his opponents in his fighting career includes Rick “The Jet” Roufus, 6 time world champion.
After the revolution in Iran, he travelled the world and lived in India, Pakistan, Tibet, Holland, and Canada. He eventually moved to Tampa Bay and opened the first Muay Thai School in the Florida back in 1992.
Master Mehrdad found that the politics of martial arts negatively affected these great sports. He wanted to work with others who were interested in highlighting the best aspects of martial arts training and professional competition. "I saw the amount of effort and work these athletes were investing in their training and for events. Their fighting spirit was amazing and I wanted to provide a stage to showcase their skills and talents. I also saw that female fighters were taken advantage of in the industry and fighting without pads while not getting paid a fight purse, so as a father of two female fighters I took a stand for them and took female fighters pro and provided them with fight purses and title fights,” he said.
Master Mehrdad figured fans would come to see events with rules that called for more fast paced fights and much more explosive techniques. He was fascinated by the early stage Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) from early 90s because they brought traditional artists using different skills and multiple styles, but with the turn of ownership felt that it lacked the honor, skill, and technique that he once admired. As a traditional martial artist, he felt that stand up striking arts were more explosive and exciting to watch. He developed a striking style called Shin Do Kumaté, and launched his own company bearing his initials, MKM Knockout Promotions, LLC, to promote professional bouts. His company titled World Shin Do Kumaté Association, Inc. produces a series of amateur events to promote and build new athletes since fighters begin training at such an early age.
Shin Do Kumaté allows explosive elbow strikes, knees, kicks to entire body, throws and sweeps but does not include ground grappling. Instead it allows for stand up wrestling and Muay Thai clinches. Events are contested in a ring and fighters wear standard boxing gloves. His company has copyrighted the rules and registered their intellectual property. Shin Do Kumaté features professional male and female fighters from around the world and the events are broadcast via television networks worldwide.
In 2002, he was the first promoter/fighter to produce a professional Muay Thai event in the state of Florida. Since that time, he has produced fifteen very successful professional shows for television and since 1995 he has produced the Master Mehrdad Muay Thai Classic events for amateur kickboxers.
Master Mehrdad differentiates his events by matching the toughest, most exciting fighters against each other ensuring that the level of entertainment is always high. Because his shows are well attended, he has attracted several sponsors and has now partnered with a casino agency to produce casino shows for television worldwide.
He is capitalizing on the popularity of the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC). "The UFC paved the road and created a platform for Shin Do Kumaté," he noted. "Boxing has been around for more than a hundred years but it is dying due to not producing athletes like Mohammad Ali. While many corporations are reluctant to be involved with the UFC because of the violence in the cage, our events offer an exciting alternative. Great entertainment combined with highly skilled and quality athletes who tap into the honor and tradition of the sport," he commented.
His approach has worked well. Since 2002, his professional league was broadcast on Time Warner, Fox, ESPN, and other pay-per-view outlets. His audience is made up of 12-57 year olds and he's even been able to attract large numbers of women.
Master Mehrdad's partnership with Zebra has been very beneficial. "I really respect Zebra as a company. Their products are the best quality and they do everything they can to service our gym and our promotions company," he commented. "We use Zebra's full line of equipment and we’re proud to endorse the brand."
Master Mehrdad discovered along the way, that not all organizations were excited about his events. "The state boxing commission was a real challenge for us. All they cared about were the fees they felt they were entitled to. We needed their sanction to hold professional shows but Muay Thai should be governed by a Muay Thai-specific organization," he stated. He's even considered launching a national governing body to help organize the sport in the U.S.
Always striving to improve, Master Mehrdad has set some ambitious goals for his business. "I'd like to bring in TV partnerships and bigger, stronger sponsors. I'm very selective, however, in the companies we choose. They have to be a good fit and they must be interested to grow their brand globally," he mentioned.
As it stands, ESPN will be airing several Shin Do Kumaté events internationally, and Strykerz TV will be streaming them via the Internet. Master Mehrdad also hosts a weekly TV show in the U.S. and Canada.
"I really enjoy the marketing, public relations, and the entertainment side of this industry. Finding the right athletes and pairing them in exciting fights is also a thrill. I'm very interested in the personal stories of the athletes who compete and to see how their discipline carries into their personal lives," he commented. Master Mehrdad is also an accomplished social networker, leveraging Facebook and YouTube whenever possible.
If you're in the Tampa Bay area, be sure to drop by his training center and checkout the programs he offers. The Dojang website is: http://www.mastermehrdad.com. To learn more about exciting Shin Do Kumaté events, visit the website at: http://www.shindoKumaté.com

Sweet Wheat impacts Master Mehrdad's Training result
My name is Master Mehrdad Khan Moayedi and I am an 8th Dan Black Belt. My history in the Martial Arts goes back 40 years, learning traditional fundamentals under the greatest Grand Masters from around the world. 18 years ago I started teaching traditional Martial Arts in the Tampa Bay area and have since developed my own unique style of Martial Arts under my organization World Shin Do Kumaté Association, Inc. In 2002, I founded an international fighting sport “Shin Do Kumaté that is produced for television and distributed worldwide.
Growing up in the Far East provided me the privilege of eating a very nutritious and organic diet. I have lived in the West for the past two decades where it’s very hard to eat properly with our fast paced lives and the lack of nutrition in my body was frustrating because I was not accustomed to this lifestyle. As a very active individual, my body craved nutrition and no matter how healthy my diet or how many supplements I tried to fill the void, it was not enough because as an athlete I needed more than what I could get from food or a protein shake.
As a professional fighter with a rigorous training regimen, I do not believe in putting creatine, steroids, performance enhancements, or anything in my body for a quick fix. I am too old schooled for that and I only seek nutrition in its purest form. That is why I was so happy I came across Sweet Wheat, a wheat grass nutritional supplement of the purest form. And of all the wheat grass supplements I have found, Sweet Wheat is the only product I have found that can be ingested at a point where it provides the most effective results and I can feel it immediately and it’s effects are long-lasting because it contains the nutrients my body needs. I feel rejuvenated and energetic all throughout the day. Even my daughter says she noticed my legs are more defined than ever since I started Sweet Wheat.
I believe in this product so much that my company has partnered with Sweet Wheat and I strongly recommend it to all my athletes that I personally train to take the product daily, including my family. I proudly endorse Sweet Wheat and urge all people, whether you’re an athlete or not, try this product. I promise you will feel the difference in your body and be well on your way to a healthier life.

Shin Do Kumaté
Shin Do Kumaté
Shin Do Kumaté, “The Way of the Fighting Spirit", Shin Do Kumaté is the fastest growing international brand of powerful Muay Thai & Full Contact Martial Arts founded by Master Mehrdad Moayedi, a professional fighter himself with a traditional Martial Arts background. Master Mehrdad had intense training under the teachings of prominent grandmasters in the Far East and is an 8th Dan Black Belt. His competition is one that joins true Martial Arts Masters and top ranking male and female fighters from around the world.
What sets Shin Do Kumaté apart from all other competitions is that it employs traditional Martial Arts and Muay Thai disciplines, techniques and rules to give the fighters an opportunity to prove their chosen art’s effectiveness in true combat. The concept behind SDK is to tap into the ritual honor, respect and customs of the Far Eastern culture and entertainment itself.
Shin Do Kumaté has been designed as the arena for fighters to prove themselves as the “The Most Devastating Warriors of All Time.” It takes a Warrior with courage to get into our ring. Fighters earn ultimate respect for fighting in a Shin Do Kumaté, win or lose. These fighters go head-to-head using the most advanced fighting techniques.
Although the rules are simple, the competition is fierce. The bouts consist of three, three-minute rounds. Fighters use 10-oz gloves, fight in a standard boxing ring, and there are no knockdown rules in effect. Fighters have knockout punches, shin-breaking kicks & knees to the entire body, as well as elbow strikes. Ultimately, the Shin Do Kumate’ fighting system has been described as the most superior stand-up fighting discipline in which the fighter can use full boxing skills, all Martial Arts kicks, and all skills from Muay Thai, including clinching and stand-up grappling which allow throws to the ground. There are very few limitations of what you can do on your feet. All of this makes for a very exciting, high paced match.

The thrilling action attracts spectators who seek real exciting fights. These fans want to see knockouts, warriors against warriors displaying respect, discipline, and honor as in traditional Kumaté fights. Master Mehrdad's Unique Kung Fu Philosophy

Master Mehrdad's Unique Hapkido Philosophy
Master Mehrdad's Unique Hapkido Philosophy
Today, there are many forms of martial art self defense techniques, but you'll find that only certain parts of the body and certain techniques are used. Most martial arts practice limited techniques and does not use complete combat styles.
Master Mehrdad's Hapkido Form utilizes the entire body in a flowing and dynamic manner. His style of Hapkido is powerful in self defense and combative fighting technique. It is a combination of dynamic, explosive and flowing body movements that can penetrate and conquer anything. It allows complete awareness of the body, mind and spirit. Hapkido uses counter-attack techniques with a variety of offensive and defensive skills based upon understanding one's inner power (spirit chi) and outer power (physical chi).
Master Mehrdad believes that in order for one to achieve a proper flowing technique, one must understand three very important principles of Hapkido. Those principals are (1) Water, which penetrates and is very powerful, but can also be very calm. (2) Circular Motion: Evasive and avoids force. (3) Passive: Non-resistant.
The most important and basic advantage of Shin Do-Hapkido© is that you are able to knock down or defeat your opponent with minimum effort, because you use the attackers force against them. This form of art is suitable for anyone, any age, and any size.
With Master Mehrdad's Hapkido, you will learn:
- Thousands self-defense techniques
- Competitive and practical full contact fighting skills
- Grappling, throwing, chokes, pressure points and ground fighting
- Persian Kushti Kaj (advance students only)
- Martial Art Weapon Training - Offense & Defense
- Learn how to disarm an attacker
- One-on-one teachings
- Martial arts philosophy (respect, self confidence, honor, and knowledge of supreme martial art)
- Physical fitness - Physical, mental & spiritual achievement
Master Mehrdad's World Shin Do-Hapkido Association focuses on your personal accomplishments and achievements.
Master Mehrdad's Creed of Teaching
Master Mehrdad’s Martial Art system taps into the physical concept of the Martial Arts, as well as the mental concepts. As students progress into higher rankings, they will also learn the spiritual concept as well. Besides learning the skills and knowledge of Martial Arts, students learn honor respect and discipline and how to incorporate these skills into their lives. Martial Arts should not be learned as a hobby, but rather a way of life. We are a traditional school, not a commercial school. Under Master Mehrdad’s teachings, students test for their next ranking when they have earned it.
Children train in Muay Thai two times per week. Adults train in Muay Thai four times per week. Muay Thai is not just a striking art, but a spiritual art that comes originated in Indonesia and Thailand. This striking art teaches tremendous confidence and self discipline. Striking is the most difficult art to master and is one of the best styles of Martial Arts to learn as a self defense in a combat situation, as well as any form of competition.
One day a week is devoted strictly to the Martial Arts consisting of forms, self defense, weapons and meditation. Students learn coordination, skill and balance. This is where they tap into the gracefulness and beauty behind the Martial Arts. The Martial Arts and weapons form taught in this school are not acrobatic or empty and it’s not similar to any other commercial school styles. It is a unique expression of one’s self. As an example, you can learn hip hop dancing on the street or you can learn Ballet from a prestigious academy.
We also teach and encourage sparring as one of the most important parts of training. Whether you are training to be the next world champion or for simple self defense, learning the art and philosophy of sparring will help you complete your training. All of these aspects of Martial Arts are good by themselves, but once you combine them together then you develop a whole and complete system. If you are in bad situation and never sparred, you will never know how to react. I have seen many fine martial artists and black belts get in trouble when they are faced with a good striker or a street fighter. Sparring gives you confidence and takes the fear and hesitation away. Remember, in this school we can create the next world champion or the next greatest martial arts master. As a Master of Martial Arts myself, I have all the confidence and knowledge to give my students the tools to reach their goals.
Master Mehrdad has achieved many great things in the Martial Arts industry and fighting industry. Through the tireless efforts of Master Mehrdad and his team, amateur Martial Arts and Muay Thai fighters, both children and adults, now have the opportunity to hone their skills in the Master Mehrdad Muay Thai Classics. Students who want to become fighters may now pursue their dreams and build a solid foundation as they venture into nationally recognized competitors. Master Mehrdad also builds amateur fighters into professional fighters. Female Muay Thai fighters are finally getting the exposure they deserve as they fight alongside some of the best fighters in the world on the internationally recognized Shin Do Kumate’, a worldwide televised professional Martial Arts and Muay Thai fighting event founded by Master Mehrdad. Master Mehrdad also gives back to the community by doing numerous fundraisers, children’s self defense workshops and visiting numerous schools for the Great American Teach In for the past 15 years.

Fundamental Facts of the Martial Arts:
- The meaning behind Dojo, Dojang, Kwan or Martial Art Academy stands for “A Hall where one pursues their dream of enlightenment or mastery of Martial Arts in multiple directions.”
- Loyalty to the Master, Dojang, Art, and Yourself.
- Respect to the art, all other students and also to the Master. By demonstrating respect, you earn respect.
- Devotion, Hard Work, and Patience. It takes time to understand this beautiful Far Eastern culture. Learning Martial Arts is a Way of Life, not a short-term hobby.
- Honor. The most powerful word in life; not only in Martial Arts, but also in your regular everyday life. It is something that comes from within and with a lot of discipline. It is not something that everyone understands.
- And lastly, take all of that in which you have learned in your Martial Art school to your home, family, loved ones and your work.

Master Mehrdad's Achievements
Ancient Hap Kido-Shaolin Kung-Fu Association was established in 1992 by Master Mehrdad Khan Moayedi. Originally from Persia , he traveled the world and learned true Martial Arts & Muay Thai from various Grand Masters ultimately training with Grand Master In Suk Pak in Toronto , Canada . There he earned his 6 th Degree Black Belt and Masters Certification. Master Mehrdad then specialized in various styles of Arts that he mastered throughout his journey (Hapkido, Kung-Fu, Tae Keuk Do, Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai and Persian Kushti Kaj). He then developed his own style, and formed the World Shin Do Kumaté Association Inc. He is currently ranked an 8th Dan Black Belt.
Master Mehrdad K. Moayedi is a traditional Martial Arts and Muay Thai practitioner that has brought the amateur and professional Art of Muay Thai to new markets worldwide via his televised Shin Do Kumaté events. Master Mehrdad was the first promoter/fighter to produce a professional Muay Thai event in the State of Florida in 2002 and has since produced 15 shows that are currently available via a multiple media platform and distributed to television networks worldwide. Female Muay Thai fighters were given opportunities that were never available to them prior to Shin Do Kumaté, as he provided females with matches and title bouts. Since 1992, Master Mehrdad brought Muay Thai, true traditional MMA and has operated a successful Martial Arts, Muay Thai training facility in Tampa Bay, Florida where he currently trains both amateur and professional fighters. Master Mehrdad then founded MKM Knockout Promotions LLC which produces the Shin Do Kumaté fighting event. Shin Do Kumaté features professional male and female Muay Thai fighters from around the world and the series of events are broadcasted via television networks worldwide. “The Quest for the Greatest Martial Arts Warrior” was borne and Master Mehrdad seeks fighters who embody the spirit of traditional wisdom, humility and honor, as he believes this is the way of the fighting spirit.
Master Mehrdad teaches that martial arts brings true balance to all aspects of life, including personal and business relationships. Additionally, Master Mehrdad has developed a fighting/self defense system that he finds to be more effective than other styles by eliminating many ineffective moves that other styles rely upon. His art incorporates techniques and strategies of such styles as Hapkido, Kung-Fu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Kushti Kaj (grappling) and Western boxing. His teachings also include Yoga, Tai Chi, and Chi Kung - the roots of internal power.
All styles of Martial Arts have benefits and Master Mehrdad encourages children and adults to practice any discipline. He does however always seek to remove limitations within disciplines. For example, Tae Kwon Do relies on leg techniques; Karate uses primarily rigid/straight-forward movements; Aikido focuses on circular and hand movements and western boxing focuses on upper body techniques. Judo and other grappling arts focus on submissions and throws. Although all of these arts and techniques are good, each has its own limitations. Kung-Fu styles emphasize on form and weapons training, and most Hapkido schools teach the same styles differently depending on the instructor and the level of his/her training. Master Mehrdad’s unique style is very effective, dynamic and complete without limitations.
Before people understood and popularized Mixed Martial Arts, Master Mehrdad was living it, breathing it and teaching it. To him, many people do not understand the real concept of Mixed Martial Arts. He views today’s MMA as Full Contact Wrestling and a branch off of WWE and Toughman competitions and is concerned about the desperation of new promoters attempting to put unqualified fighters in a cage with no prior experience. The true interpretation of Mixed Martial Arts is a strong discipline of other existing arts, such as Karate, Kung fu, Tae Kwon do, Judo and Jiu-Jitsu, and matching highly experienced Martial Artists from two different backgrounds with each other to see which style reigns. This is not what is being represented today or taught today. Master Mehrdad Khan Moayedi has devoted over 30 years of his life to the study and teaching of Martial Arts and actively participates in traditional Martial Arts systems. He currently fights in full-contact events and he is well recognized for his knowledge and mastery of Martial Arts, and is a well respected businessman. Master Mehrdad received a 2003 Businessman of the Year award and he received the National Leadership Award. He was recognized as a top U.S. Business Leader in The Wall Street Journal in March, 2003.
Students of Master Mehrdad Khan Moayedi learn that Martial Arts is not only about fighting, it is a way of life. It is a journey to find peace within you and gain patience, confidence and self esteem. Martial arts is like a powerful oak tree with strong roots and many branches, and fighting is only one branch. You will learn to discover the power within yourself by training with Master Mehrdad’s traditional techniques.
Testing is only granted to students that have shown good performance, good conduct, and strong will. This school is dedicated to teach students that life is about commitment, dedication, dreams and goals. These teachings are what the foundation of this school is based on.
